How to Make a Quarterly Plan (Astrology Edition)
How many times have you made a quarterly plan only to abandon it a few weeks in? (If you’re anything like me, so many.)
Inevitably, something always comes up that derails your beautiful plans. Or the projects you chose lose their luster and you abandon them for something shiny and new (but not necessarily strategic).
What if there was a tool that told you exactly which quarterly priorities would succeed and which would be a waste of time? Well there is. It’s called astrology.
The projects and tasks on your quarterly to-do list that have the most cosmic support will be the easiest to complete and the most successful. In this post, I walk you through how to figure out where the cosmic support lies so you can skip the trial and error and get to the good part.
Step 1: The Who-Cares-About-Astrology Brain Dump
The first step in astrological planning is to forget about astrology. Yes, I'm so serious.
Get out your journal, your favorite notebook, or just a scrap piece of paper and write down all of the wild ideas you have for your business this upcoming quarter.
Write down all of the fun things, but also make sure to write down what absolutely must happen in order for your business to run, as well as things that are already on the calendar.
Got your list? Great. Now, we want to whittle this list down and make it realistic for you to complete. We’re going to do that by crossing off the tasks that don’t align with the upcoming astrology, and prioritizing the tasks that do.
How do we determine which tasks and projects align with the astrology? Well, we need to know the astrology first.
Step 2: Gather the Astrological Facts
It’s time to take a look at the astrology for the upcoming quarter and see which tasks align with it most closely. This is honestly the hardest step if you're not a professional astrologer, so please come and see me if you’d like help with this.
These are the astrological facts you need to know:
The house real-time Jupiter is transiting in your chart
The house real-time Saturn is transiting in your chart
If there’s an upcoming eclipse
If there’s an upcoming Mercury, Venus, or Mars retrograde
And if you’re really astrology savvy, and you know you’re having a significant outer planet (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) transit to one of your natal visible planets, you may want to incorporate that into your plan too.
Step 3: Match Plans and Planets
Now it’s time to take your epic quarterly list and begin highlight or eliminating tasks based on if they receive cosmic support this quarter.
Your House and Planet of the Year
Your house and planet of the year define the main themes and storylines of your year ahead. These two astrological factors represent the to-dos that will have the most cosmic support over the next twelve months. If this is all you pay attention to, you’re 1000% ahead of the average business owner.
For example, let’s pretend your house of the year is the 6th house. This means that sixth-house will have the most support. Generally, this will include any to-do items within the realms of organization, routines, and workflows. Anything that's going to reduce busy work and create a system is something you want to focus on.
Let’s pretend your planet of the year is Jupiter. This means that Jupiter-type activities will have support too. Jupiter is the planet of growth, expansion, and broadening horizons. Any tasks that fall within these realms have the green light.
Look at your quarterly list and ask, Would my plant of the year do this task? If the answer is yes, that task stays. If the answer is no, cross it off.
Transiting Jupiter
Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, is somewhere in the real-time sky right now, which means it’s moving through a specific house in your birth chart. Figure out what house this is and the areas of business it represents. These will be areas of expansion and experimentation. If anything on your list jives with this, move it to the top.
Transiting Saturn
You also want to know where real-time Saturn is transiting in your birth chart. This will be an area of focus and effort. It’s an area of business that will require simplification and refinement. Saturn transits mean business and they often create a feeling of seriousness or pressure around the topics of the natal house Saturn is transiting.
Eclipses
The next thing I want you to know is if, when, and where any eclipses will be occurring in your chart. These will be areas of shakeup, instability, and change.
For example, perhaps you discover an eclipse will be happening in your 12th house. The 12th house is about rest, recovery, and stepping back. This is a clue that you may want to schedule in some rest time, maybe even a mini vacation, near this eclipse.
Inner Planet Retrogrades
And finally, check for any relevant retrogrades during the quarter. In my opinion, this means Mars, Venus, or Mercury retrogrades. If a retrograde is occurring this quarter, which natal house will it occur in and what areas of business does that house correlate with? In business, retrogrades are often about slowing down and revisiting, rethinking, redoing, or repositioning.
Step 4: Tally Up the Celestial Support
Step four is easy. Tally up all the celestial support and see which tasks have the most. These are the to-dos that you want to prioritize this quarter. The rest? They’ll have their time in the spotlight later.
And voila! We took a really big quarterly to-do list and whittled it down to the projects and priorities that will be realistic, easier to do, and more successful because they have planetary support.
Your next step is to schedule these things on your calendar. Exact timing depends on shorter astrological cycles, such as lunar cycles or planetary aspects, which is beyond the scope of this post. Just know that there’s always more astrology where this came from!
If you’d like me to do all the astrological heavy lifting and help you plan your quarter, I’d love to work with you.
