The Three Phases of a Planet-Powered Business and How to Clarify Yours

What if there was a business tool that told you exactly what to offer, who to sell it to, how to market it, and when?

You’d be sold, right? Right.

Well, that tool exists. And it’s astrology. Yep.

An astrology-powered business (aka a planet-powered business) saves you time, energy, and money. Period. But let’s dive a little deeper.

First, when you align your business with your astrology chart, you create something that feels natural. Your business doesn’t have to feel like an awful pair of hard pants, it can feel like home.

There’s an effortlessness to an astrologically-aligned business because it leverages your innate gifts, strengths, and takes your desires into account.

A planet-powered business also take less time and effort. Now, building and running a business will always be work, but if you understand your chart, it's like a celestial shortcut.

Your astrology chart isn’t a cute personality profile, it’s a roadmap to your success. Your chart clearly shows what’ll work and what probably won’t. The result? No more business guessing games and wasting your time.

The other great thing about having a planet-powered business is actual timing, as in, planning and organizing your business with astrological cycles. Astrology excels at alerting you to opportune times for growth, collaboration, launching, or resting.

Timing your business with the stars is like jumping into a lazy river and just going with the flow. And it gives you a major advantage over other people in your industry.

This invaluable info comes from astrological timing techniques like annual profections, transits, secondary progressions, or whatever your predictive cup of tea is. (By the way, these are techniques I use in The Birthday Ritual.)

Sounds great, right? So, how do you build your business with astrology?

The Three Phases of a Planet-Powered Business

Building a planet-powered business requires you to move through three phases: clarify, codify, and amplify. Let’s go through each briefly.

Phase 1: Clarify

Phase one is exactly what it sounds like—clarifying what you do, why you do it, how you do it, and who you do it for (using your astrology chart).

If you skip phase one, you’ll likely have to start your business over and over and over again until something sticks. (Take it from someone who knows.)

The rest of this post is a deep dive on the clarify phase.

Phase 2: Codify

Now that you have a strong business foundation thanks to phase one, it’s time to erect the scaffolding. The codify phase is about creating structures and systems that allow your business to run smoothly and sustainably. (Again, using your astrology chart.)

If you skip phase two, you’re going to reach burnout well before your business has grown to a degree where it can actually support you.

You have to do the “boring” behind-the-scenes work first before you grow and amplify your business, which is phase three.

Phase 3: Amplify

Phase three is what most people think of when they think about starting a business—marketing, growth, and collaboration. But if you skip straight to the amplify step without the clarity or structure, you’re just going to amplify a big mess.

However, if you shy away from the amplify phase, you have a hobby, not a business. My point is, all three phases are equally important.

How to Clarify Your Business with Astrology

When I say clarify your business, I mean getting crystal clear on what you do, why you do it, who you do it for, and how.

Now, since you’re reading this, you probably already have your own business, or a pretty good idea of what you want to do. The point of this post is not to tell you what do to, it’s to help you refine how you do it.

However, if you happen to be reading this and have no idea what you’re suited for or skilled at, an astrologer can probably help.

The three pieces of your astrology chart that clarify your business are your luminary (Sun or Moon), your Midheaven, and the planet that rules your Midheaven.

The Sun or Moon: Why You Do What You Do

Let’s start with your luminary. First things first, if you were born in the day, your luminary is the Sun. If you were born at night, your luminary is the Moon.

Think of your luminary as the founder or president of your business. It defines why your business exists and its overall purpose. It’s the overall vision holder (along with you, of course).

This is really important information to know because business can get tough sometimes. When you’re connected to your greater why, you have more oomph to get through a challenging day.

Let's pretend your luminary is in Pisces. This means the greater why, motivation, or vision behind your business probably has an undulating Pisces theme.

Perhaps you started your business so you could operate from you intuition, be creative for the sake of creativity, or offer compassion. These are all Pisces themes.

What about a luminary in Virgo? This business owner might be compelled to do their thing simply because they feel fulfilled when they create order out of chaos.

One more example: a luminary in Aries. This person may have started their business to be a trailblazer and carve out a totally new path in an industry.

Start researching the zodiac sign your luminary is in and note its major themes and motivations. How does it reflect your greater why in business?

The Midheaven: Your Strengths & Resources

The Midheaven is the most visible part of your chart. It's the place where the Sun was highest on the day of your birth. Because of that symbolism, the Midheaven is correlated with your public life or career.

To be clear, the Midheaven is a point, not a planet. It’s usually indicated by the letters MC, and it’ll be somewhere in the top half of your birth chart.

The element of your Midheaven’s zodiac sign (fire, earth, air, water) may describe some of the strengths and resources you bring to your business. The mode of your Midheaven’s zodiac sign (cardinal, fixed, mutable) describes how you tend to operate in your business.

Find your Midheaven and its zodiac sign. Then, identify its element and mode from the lists below. The keywords and phrases associated with this zodiac sign will describe some of the strengths and resources you naturally bring to your business.

Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Cardinal: Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn
Fixed: Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius
Mutable: Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo, Pisces

Example: Midheaven in Cancer

Let's pretend you have the Midheaven in Cancer. As a water sign, Cancer strengths and resources might be:

  • Sensitivity and emotional intelligence

  • Making people feel comfortable and safe

  • Ease creating a family or team environment

  • Flexibility and the ability to adjust plans and timelines

As a cardinal sign (and this goes for all the other cardinal signs too), a Cancer Midheaven likes the challenge of a goal. Cardinal signs tend to operate very forcefully at work. They like to push it a bit. (Yes, even Cancer.)

One thing to note: cardinal signs are really great at initiating new projects, not necessarily great at finishing them.

Example: Midheaven in Aquarius

As an air sign, a few strengths an Aquarius Midheaven might bring to a business include:

  • Excellent communication

  • Innovative and out-of-the-box thinking

  • Epic brainstorming capabilities (never out of ideas!)

  • A natural focus on community and collaboration

The fixed mode describes how these strengths are used. Generally, people with a fixed Midheaven (Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius) consistent and reliable. They're good at implementing tasks and going the distance.

Example: Midheaven in Pisces

Pisces is a mutable water sign. Like Cancer, it’ll bring water strengths and resources to the business including but not limited to:

  • Strong intuition

  • Compassion

  • Creativity

  • A keen ability to merge concepts together

The mutable mode describes how these strengths are implemented. Generally, mutable Midheavens fluctuate.

They’re not built for consistent, plodding work. They need variety and do best touching in and out of a project.

Mutable Midheavens are also good at bringing things to completion, or transforming things into something new.

Your CEO Planet: How You Do What You Do

Okay, so we’ve talked about the Midheaven point, but there’s a planet in your chart that’s actually in chart of operating it. This planet is like the CEO of your business. It steers your professional direction, and it’s the planet you want to consider anytime you're making a business decision.

To figure out which planet rules your Midheaven, you need to know which planet rules which Zodiac sign. Find yours in the list below.

Aries – Mars
Taurus – Venus
Gemini – Mercury
Cancer – Moon
Leo – Sun
Virgo – Mercury
Libra – Venus
Scorpio – Mars
Sagittarius – Jupiter
Capricorn – Saturn
Aquarius – Saturn
Pisces – Jupiter

For example, my Midheaven is in Libra, so my career planet is Venus because Venus rules Libra.

From a general career astrology perspective, the planet that rules your Midheaven might signify certain professions or industries that you find yourself in. But I like to think of this planet as defining your work ethic, as well as the values, beliefs, and attitudes that underpin your business.

This planet may also describe, depending on the astrological context, the overall business story. Is there smooth sailing or stormy seas?

Example: Moon CEO

Someone with a Moon CEO will likely operate their business in a very lunar way. For example, they may work in a fluctuating manner and need a schedule that allows them to wax and wane.

They might work with Moon-type people. (The Moon generally describes women or wellness practitioners and healers.) They might work in a business or industry that takes care of the home, whether it’s a physical home or a digital one.

But no matter what industry they find themselves in, someone with the Moon operating as CEO will hold lunar values and attitudes close to their heart. Care, nourishment, safety, privacy, protection—these are just a few examples of Moon values.

Example: Saturn CEO

When Saturn is the CEO, Saturn attitudes, beliefs, and values are prioritized in the business. There’s usually a preference for and emphasis on structure, longevity, organization, and practicality.

Someone with a Saturn CEO usually has a plan in place. They also tend to value hard work and may verge on pushing themselves a little too hard.

Example: Venus CEO

If you have Venus as your CEO, your business needs to prioritize pleasure and feeling good. Again, if your business feels like a pair of hard pants, you need to rethink things.

Venus values beauty, connection, and harmony, and these things will likely take a central role in the brand. A person with a Venus CEO would be wise to finetune their schedule so that it’s a good balance of work and play.

Example: Jupiter CEO

A Jupiter business must feel uplifting, encouraging, and it needs to offer an avenue of constant growth in order for the owner to feel fulfilled. Jupiter values expansion, accumulation, abundance, and sharing that abundance with others.

Aspects to the Midheaven

That’s probably more than enough to get you started, but I just want to whet your appetite and let you know that there's way more astrology where this came from.

If you feel like you want more, note if are any planets aspecting your Midheaven degree. These planets are going to add to your business story and expression

Now, there could be several planets aspecting your Midheaven degree, so I highly recommend prioritizing the tightest ones—my vote is three degrees or less.

Let's do a few examples rapid-fire style…

An aspect from Jupiter will bring a hunger for success and the desire to achieve more, more, more. It also emphasizes that the business owner must believe in the work that they’re doing. They can’t just do anything—they have to be 100% invested.

An aspect from Mercury describes a business that needs to express, chat, connect, network, and share ideas. The brand voice and core message of the business needs to be crystal clear in order for it to succeed.

What about pesky Neptune aspecting the Midheaven? (That would be me.) Usually when Neptune is interacting with the Midheaven, there's a spiritual tone to the business, but it can also act like a fog machine and make the career path a little windy…to put it nicely.

An aspect from Saturn often describes someone who takes their work very, very seriously. You may need things be very structured, and you might approach work in a classically organized and practical way. Saturn also represents authority figures, and the idea of being an authority in your field may be something that drives you forward.

Going Deeper

Can other planets influence your business? Absolutely. How much time ya got?! But what we went through above are the essentials when it comes to clarifying what, why, and how you do what you do.
